As we approach March, Spring is right around the corner, and almost overnight, my TikTok and Instagram feeds are suddenly filled with Winter-to-Spring transitional outfits. As much as I love winter fashion, I’m really longing for warmer days because it means that sundress season is right around the corner! And thankfully, it seems like the weather in Los Angeles is right on track. I just checked my weather app and saw nothing but 75° and sunny days.

But I know that’s not the case for most of the country… If the weather where you live is taking its sweet time warming up to comfortable temperatures, dressing for the new season while making sure you don’t get sick can be a bit tricky. And if you’ve been eyeing your favorite skirt but it’s still too cold to wear it out, here is some outfit inspiration I’ve come up with recently following four simple tips that help me survive this annoying in-between season.

It’s funny to note that today’s post is the complete opposite of my “7 Trendy Shorts, Dresses, & Skirts For the Not-So-Cold Fall Season” post from last year! The winter-to-spring transition is much nicer to us in Los Angeles, as opposed to wanting to pull out the sweaters for fall when it’s still 100° out. So if you’re struggling to keep warm but dress for the season, I know how frustrating it can be, and I’m here to try to bridge that gap for you. xx

Pairing Sweaters With Skirts

My favorite way to style Spring transitional outfits is by pairing sweaters with skirts. It’s super easy, and there are a million possible combinations!

In this first outfit, I wore a short denim skirt with an oversized sweater tucked into the waistband to add that draped effect. I will admit, however, that this is a perfect look for a warmer day because your legs are fully bare. If it’s still too cold for this look where you are, adding knee-high boots is a great way to keep your legs warm while incorporating Spring fashion into your look.

Too Cold? Add Knee-High Boots

That’s what I did on this day! My boyfriend and I went out to a lovely Valentine’s Day brunch, and for this look, I paired a thick gray ASOS sweater (wearing a size Small US 4-6) with a flowy white skort and knee-high boots. However, for a little extra boost, I added some knee-high socks as well to keep my legs warm. It also made for a cute touch! A lovely two-for-one, haha.

But you might be saying… this outfit is still not warm enough!

Still Too Cold? Try Fleece-lined Sheer Illusion Tights

If you’re reading this thinking I’m crazy for suggesting the outfits above, first of all, I’m so sorry. I’ve only ever lived in Los Angeles and can’t imagine temperatures below 50°.

So, I’ll take it one step further:

Add tights!

Whether you opt for sheer tights or fleece-lined sheer illusion tights, this extra layer will be sure to keep your body warm.

On this day (pictured to the left), it was pouring rain out, super cold and gloomy, and I was as warm as can be. I also got a few compliments on this look, so I highly recommend using it as inspo for your next ootd!

P.S. If you’ve never heard of fleece-lined sheer illusion tights, they’re exactly what the name suggests! The inside is made up of cozy fleece, keeping you nice and warm, and they’re made to look like your skin color with a thin sheer tight overtop it. I think it’s the coolest invention!

It’s All in the Colors

Finally, Spring is all about bringing color back into your wardrobe. Wearing pastels and floral patterns is the easiest way to makeover your look for the new season, but if it’s still too cold for short-sleeves, try adding some colored cardigans overtop a white long-sleeved top and flowy skirt. Long skirts are perfect for hiding leggings underneath, by the way!

However, colorful cardigans and sweaters work just as well over your everyday jeans or trousers (or any warm pants, for that matter).

And if you want to take it even further, add a colorful coat, such as this pink coat I’ve been eyeing from ASOS, which would be the perfect addition to your warm winter outfit. It is adorable! Or this sage coat, which is currently on sale.

My favorite cardigans ever are from Sezane, including the thin Gaspard Cardigan pictured above and the Emilie Cardigan pictured below! I have them in a bunch of colors and love them.

But don’t think you need to go buy a whole new set of cardigans, sweaters, or coats; sometimes, the accessories are just the touch of color that you need! Try adding a colorful scarf and a bunch of your favorite gold jewelry to bring back some warmth and glow to your look.

At the end of the day, fashion should be fun, and you can celebrate Spring however it feels right for you! These tips are simply my favorite ways of easily changing a Winter look into a bright and fun Spring one. If you have any other tips, feel free to share them in the comments!
