25 Classic Christmas Movies for Your Next Movie Night

The holidays are here, and one of my favorite things to do the week of Thanksgiving is to get cozy and watch Christmas movies!

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been watching Christmas movies since October, but it just feels different when the big day is only four and a half weeks away. So, if you Googled a list of the best Christmas movies, I’m happy that the search led you here!

I’ll be breaking the list up into categories and updating it whenever I see a new movie that I love. So it’s everchanging!

And if you’re in the mood for more Christmas content when you’re done, come back and watch me decorate our townhouse for Christmas!

Christmas movies to watch with your bestie:

These Christmas movies are more romantic and created with the girlies in mind. Perfect for a movie night with your bestie; crack open that bottle of wine and press play!

The Holiday — The is one of the BEST Christmas movies ever! Two women who live on opposite sides of the world switch homes to run away from their love lives, but it finds them anyway.

The Merry Gentlemen — Chad Michael Murray stars in a small-town, all-male, Christmas-themed revue. Steamy!

Meet Me Next Christmas — After making a deal with a handsome stranger at the airport, Layla will do whatever it takes to get a ticket to the sold-out Pentatonix Christmas Eve Concert.

Hot Frosty — Kathy accidentally brings a hot (no pun intended) snowman to life. Will he melt before she realizes her feelings for him?

The Noel Diary — After his mother passes away, Jake returns to his childhood home to organize her belongings and ends up uncovering secrets about his past while helping a woman search for her biological mother. I love this one, and I love Justin Hartley!

Something from Tiffany’sZoey Deutch plays a woman whose life changes when an engagement ring that’s meant for someone else ends up in her boyfriend’s bag.

Holidate — Two strangers agree to be each other’s platonic plus ones for the entire year, but will they be able to stay just friends?

Falling for Christmas — Lindsay Lohan makes the perfect spoiled heiress who loses her memory after a skiing accident and is nursed back to health by a handsome lodge owner.

The Princess Switch — Vanessa Hudgens pulls a Parent Trap! When a Chicago baker flies to Belgravia for a competition and bumps into the prince’s fiancée, who looks just like her, they switch lives for two days.

Christmas movies to watch with your partner:

Finding Christmas movies that your significant other will also love can be tough. If they’re picky and get bored during your favorite romantic films, I’ve rounded up some movies that lean more toward comedy than romantic meet-cutes, haha! But my boyfriend also loves watching the classics, so we often pick from the “family-friendly” section below!

Our Little Secret — This movie just came out last week, and it was super fun to watch. Lindsay Lohan and Ezra from Pretty Little Liars awkwardly spend the holidays together after finding out both of their new significant others are siblings! But of course, they keep it a secret, and things get messy.

Love Hard — Nina Dobrev plays a woman who travels to surprise a guy she met online for Christmas, only to discover she’s been catfished by his best friend.

EXmas — Graham decides at the last minute that he’s going to surprise his family for the holidays, but he doesn’t know his ex-fiancèe, played by Leighton Meester, is already there celebrating Christmas.

Four Christmases — A couple tries to navigate four chaotic holiday dinners with their divorced parents.

Christmas with the Kranks — With their daughter away for the holidays, this couple decides to skip Christmas and go on a cruise. But when she decides to come home instead, they have to figure out how to celebrate a last-minute Christmas.

The Night Before — This over-the-top comedy is a little more raunchy, but Seth Rogan, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anthony Mackie make a hilarious trio on the hunt for the craziest Christmas party in all of New York.

Family-Friendly Christmas Movies:

Home Alone — When a little boy has been accidentally left home alone for the holidays, he has to come up with a plan to save his home from burglars on Christmas Eve.

Elf — A human raised as an elf at the North Pole travels to New York City to find his biological father, and despite him not fitting in, makes it his mission to spread Christmas cheer.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas — A classic, you know the one!

The Santa Clause — A man accidentally becomes Santa Claus after causing the original Santa to fall off his roof on Christmas Eve.

The Nightmare Before Christmas — Another classic; I know you’ve seen it before.

Santa Buddies — Puppies that can talk? Sign me up.

A Charlie Brown Christmas — I used to watch this every year as a kid, and it feels like a warm hug. I can’t explain it.

Movies on my Watch List:

I haven’t seen these Christmas movies yet, so I can’t properly categorize them, but I still wanted to include them in case the ones above didn’t spark any interest!

Happiest Season — A woman is planning to propose to her girlfriend during Christmas, only to discover that her girlfriend hasn’t come out to her conservative family.

Spirited — A musical reimagining of A Christmas Carol where a man is visited by the Ghost of Christmas Present, who helps him rediscover the true spirit of Christmas.

Last Christmas — A woman struggling to find direction in her life (she works as an elf at an all-year Christmas store) meets a man who helps push her toward a journey of healing.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever — Six rowdy kids take over the church’s Christmas pageant, and the chaos that unfolds demands popcorn.

And that about wraps it up! As I said in the intro, I’ll be updating this list as I come across new Christmas movies, and I’ll keep an eye on the comments in case anyone has some fun suggestions!

I hope this list sparked some inspiration for your movie night! xx
