7 Trendy Shorts, Dresses, & Skirts for the Not-so-Cold Fall Season
If you live in Los Angeles (or any city that doesn’t experience fall weather until mid-November), you either love the fact that summer rolls into the latter half of the year or hate it. There’s no in-between. And I, as a certified fall lover, absolutely hate it because the FOMO is so real.
As the months go by, seeing the fashion girlies on social media rocking the cutest fall outfits gets harder and harder because I can’t wear ANY of them or I’d have a heat stroke. But, one tip I learned that I use daily to feel included is to focus on adding colors and textures that are popular amongst the latest fall fashion trends, as opposed to actual layers.
So, in today’s post, I’m rounding up some of my favorite dresses, shorts, and skirts you can style for the “not-so-cold” fall season!
1. ASOS Soft Denim Smock Mini Dress
Denim is such a big part of fall fashion, and I’ve been loving this ASOS denim smock dress this season!
It’s flowy and girly, especially with the ruffles at the top, but the dark denim is what allows it to lean more “fall.”
I paired this look with a white t-shirt and sneakers for a comfy Disneyland look, but it can also be dressed up with some black loafers, frilly white socks, and a black purse!
2. High-Waisted Ruffle Mini Skort
Don’t you just love it when Amazon pulls through?! This white frilly skort is an Amazon find and a perfect base for tons of cute fall outfits. My favorite way to wear it is by pairing it with an oversized sweater, as I did in the video below!
Not only is the skort the perfect length, but it adds just the right amount of girly frill to your look while also helping keep you cool. You can dress it up with some knee-high boots like I did below or slip into a pair of flats—both are great choices.
3. AE Pleated It Knit Plaid Skort
I’ve been on an American Eagle kick lately. They are constantly launching super cute pieces at an affordable price point, and they always have a sale going on!
This plaid skort has been my go-to these past couple of weeks. I’ve styled it many different times — most notably with an oversized crewneck while decorating my apartment for fall and my personal favorite: a cropped black cardigan (which you can see in this video).
The fact that it’s a skort makes it super comfortable, and as a 5’3″ girl, sizing down one to an XS ensured that it’s the proper “mini” length on me!
4. ASOS Boxer Short in Leopard Print
Leopard print is everywhere right now, and these leopard shorts are a great way to incorporate a fun fall trend into your closet, even when it’s 85 degrees out! I got them from ASOS and think they look so cute paired with a white linen vest.
I wore them to go grab some apple cider donuts in Oak Glen a few weeks ago and it might be one of my favorite outfits of the season! Once the weather starts cooling down, I’ll pull out my leopard pants!
5. Miriah Maxi Skirt
One item that I could not live without, year-round, is a white maxi skirt. Like the white skort above, it’s a great base for any outfit, and fall is no exception! My favorite way to style it is shown below, where I paired the skirt with a denim vest from Amazon! I also tied in some reds to add to the autumnal palette.
This skirt would also look super cute with a cropped sweater like this one!
As always, all of my outfits are linked in my LTK shop! I also post exclusive content on there that you can’t find anywhere else!
6. West of Melrose Tiered Women’s Midi Dress
Wearing white after Labor Day is fine, as long as you spice up the look with some fall-colored accessories! Red and burgundy are the colors of the season and in this look, I paired a simple white maxi dress with a red cardigan over the shoulders and red Mary Janes.
This leopard cardigan would also be a fun way to incorporate a trendy pattern into this look!
The exact dress featured is currently sold out, but I linked similar styles.
7. Mauve Gingham Print Tiered Babydoll Mini Dress
Another really popular texture in fall fashion is gingham. While very similar to plaid, gingham is made up of evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines of equal size, and plaid includes lines of varying sizes (just in case you were curious)!
This babydoll mini dress is a dream to twirl in, and the mauve-y color makes it super cute for the early fall season. My favorite way to spice it up is by adding a white t-shirt under the dress and finishing off the look with knee-high boots.
The moral of the story is that you don’t need to dress up in warm layers to properly style fall outfits! Sticking to certain colors and textures in short/dress/skirt form is the best way to go when the weather in your area hasn’t gotten the cold memo yet.
